Large European Art Nouveau Brooch 'Poppy Girl'..c1900 or earlier.
Dating to the turn of last century (or possibly earlier) is this stunning original Art Nouveau era Brooch/Pin.
Made in two parts, cleverly joined by a slide clasp, it features the beautiful face of an Art Nouveau maiden with Coquelicots (Poppies) entwined in her hair.
The face is very similar to William Kerr designs, but this is likely of French/European origin. It is 'pressed' in repousse fashion, from an un-tested silver metal.
With a wonderful deep patina of age I have not attempted to clean the brooch, but I believe it would polish up nicely if that is your preference.
Damage free, especially the beautiful face, it has the original pin (slightly bent) and very old C clasp. It is very rare to find a 'lady face' brooch without a 'squashed' nose or chin!
If you look carefully you will see 5 small perfectly round holes along the bottom edge. I believe these originally held small depending stones, beads or seed pearls..or perhaps even fine chain.
Measuring 3 1/4" by 1 3/4" the Antique condition is very good.
