Signed Japanese Lithograph by Utamaro 1909.
Printed in London in 1909 for the renowned Art Magazine 'The Studio' (see pic #4), is this fine color Lithograph by Japanese artist Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806)..one of the most highly regarded practitioners of the Ukiyo-y genre of woodblock prints.
Entitled 'Making Up for the Stage' it is from one of a series of 4 woodblock prints which sold at Christies NY in 2009 for $35,000.00.
Signed lower left it shows two Geisha assisting a male actor to apply his make-up and has the embossed Studio stamp of authenticity and the title in English 'Making up for the Stage by Utamaro' bottom right.
Measuring 11 1/2" x 7 3/4" full sheet, the image is 8" x 5 3/4". The Antique condition is good.
The Studio was a Fine Arts magazine with an International reputation, issued in London from 1893-1964.
