This beautiful 9kt (carat gold) dress ring is set with 7 foil backed Australian Opals and was bought at Lyceum Jewellers, Wesley Arcade, Pitt St, Sydney Australia c1970.
The petal shaped Opals are set in a unique flower shape and are all matched and having 'hearts of fire' reflect shards of wonderful multi colored light when held in the light. Australian Opals are renowned for their fire and luminosity, and these will not disappoint.
The flower setting is dome shaped (similar to Princess style), with the outer point of the Opals set lower than the inner point. The central Opal is claw set above them to give depth and to show the lovely stones to best advantage.
The 4 accenting crystal stones (not diamonds), are similarly staggered upwards and the supporting gold wire setting is also raised above the ring band. In all the depth of the setting from top Opal to band is 3/8". The setting is 5/8" across.
The stones are all foil backed claw set to allow the most light to reflect.
A truly beautiful dress ring set with Australian Opals.
Beautifully made by a Sydney craftsman, the ring is Hallmarked AUS and what looks like 18K, but has been checked by my jeweller and is 9kt gold. It was a gift to my Mother in Law in the early 1970's and has never been worn. The Vintage condition is excellent.
Currently well sized for the average finger it is P-Q in UK sizing and a US size 8. Any good jeweller can up or down size it to fit. It will come to you in the pretty Chinese Silk ring box in photo #1.
