French 'Salammbo' Artist Postcard c1906. Salon de Paris.
By the French Orientalist artist A Druet is this colourful painting entitled 'Salammbo Au Festin des Mercenaires' (Salammbo at the Feast of the Mercenaries).
Salammbo (1862) is the title of an historical novel by Gustave Flaubert set in Carthage at the time of the First Punic War. Salammbo is the fictional daughter of a Carthaginian General and she dances at the feast in an attempt to quell the rioting of the mercenary soldiers.
She is the subject of many Art Nouveau era paintings.
Printed in France by Lapina, Paris and issued by Salon de Paris c1906, it is numbered 52, postally un-used and with minor corner bumps, in good Antique condition.
