Art Nouveau Artist Postcard 'Vivien and Merlin' Russian issue c1910.
By French Symbolist Gaston Bussiere (1862-1929), is this beautiful rendering of 'Merlin and Vivien' (Merlin et Viviane).
Issued in Russia c1910 it depicts the Medieval beauty in stylized Art Nouveau fashion as she tries to convince Merlin the Magician of her love for him.
According to legend..Merlin and Vivien (a lady-in-waiting to Guinevere) were resting in the forest of Broceliande, beneath an oak tree as Vivien tried to make Merlin believe she was in love with him. Her aim was to acquire a potent magic spell which she planned to use to tame King Arthur.
Franked but with no message verso the postcard is issued by Apollon Sophia, numbered 56, and with some edge and corner loss is in good Antique condition.
