Antique French Color Engraving 'Dragons and Cupid' c1810.
Telling the story of French hero, Pierre Terrail, The Chevalier de Bayard (1473-1524), better known in France as the good Knight (le bon Chevalier), this lovely allegorical engraving dates to the early 19th century c1810.
Featuring the famed Knight being escorted across the sky by a beautiful woman and a tiny Cupid, he travels in a garlanded coach drawn by a pair of flying Dragons.
Measuring 9" x 6" the engraving is delicately colored, on very good quality paper and with a few tiny foxing spots top right is in good Antique condition.
Bayard won many wars for France and as a soldier was considered the epitome of chivalry. He is a recurring character in many famous novels and statues of the hero stand in many town squares across France.
