Rare Signed French Etching 'Angel with Horns' 1878.
Executed and signed in 1878 by the French Mythologist painter Emile Jean-Baptiste Philippe Bin (1825-97), this fine Antique etching publicises the Societe des Eclectiques (a group of French etchers including Paul Leroy and Gachet).
The subject is a wonderful Medieval style Angel with two horns and she soars above a large air balloon displaying the details of an exhibition by the Societe.
Printed on fine water marked paper it has some age discoloration top right and right edge (in the margin), is signed and dated in the plate and bears a signature Emile Bin in ink in the lower margin, which I assume was a collectors mark and NOT the artist's signature. The right and bottom edge both have a lovely hand 'torn' finish.
The etching measures 4 1/4" x 5 1/8" and the entire sheet is 8 3/4" x 11 1/2" and is in good Antique condition.
