Original 'Homage a Georges Rouault' French Lithograph 1971.
From the XXeme Siecle 'Homage' Art series, printed by Mourlot and published in 1971 by Tudor, comes this original Lithograph 'Circus Rider', by the French Fauvist Expressionist painter and engraver Georges Rouault (1871-1958).
From the Special Issue first edition of the series of Homages to famous 20th century artists and created by the artist especially for exclusive inclusion in the book, the lithograph is un-signed and un-numbered. It is a rework of an early Rouault painting from 1936.
The lithograph embodies all the best qualities of Rouault works.. focusing on human nature, with a subtle stained glass window effect.
Measuring 9 1/2" x 12" it is on heavy vellum, blank verso, and has a small line of glue left edge (also verso), where it was originally tipped into the book.
The Lithograph is sold un-framed, but I have included a photo of it framed so you can see how good it could look. see pic#5.
The XXeme Siecle (20th Century) Fine Art Homage series was a collectors edition series in limited print, issued during the late 1960's and early 1970's to pay respects to the famous Modern artists. Each contained an original lithograph by the named artist and these lithographs are now highly collectible.
The Vintage condition is very good.
