This beautiful Antique Silver Backed (marked) Italian Micro Mosaic Lute Brooch Pin is c1890.
With a marked silver backing, from the late Victorian 'Grand Tour' era, comes this beautiful and unique Antique Italian micro mosaic Brooch. The use of silver in the mount and high standard of the workmanship indicates it is probably Venetian in origin.
In the form of a Lute, it is 'tiled' in lovely pastel shades with tiny tesserae in dusty pink, palest blue, white and green. Highlighted with red and black. The detailing is so fine there are even tiny string tuning pegs on the top of the neck.
Set on a silver (marked) back it has an original working C clasp. Pretty mosaic souvenir brooches were a staple collectible for the Grand Tour but they were usually quite cheaply made from brass. The fact that this is set into silver means it is craftsman made and probably a special order.
The tesserae all appear to be present and with a fine patina of age to the silver back it is in lovely Antique condition.
Measuring 1 3/4" x 3/4" it is a charming and unique collectors piece from a Golden bygone age.
