This beautiful Antique Silver Backed (marked) Italian Micro Mosaic Lute Brooch Pin is c1890.
With cheap metal settings these pretty brooches were popular mass produced tourist souvenirs in the early part of the 20th century..but a brooch as detailed as this and set into silver means it was craftsman made and is a rare find.
From the late Victorian 'Grand Tour' era comes this beautiful and unique Antique Italian micro mosaic Brooch. The high standard of the workmanship indicates it is probably Venetian in origin.
In the form of a Lute, it is 'tiled' in lovely pastel shades with tiny tesserae in dusty pink, palest blue, white and green. Highlighted with red and black. The detailing is so fine there are even tiny string tuning pegs on the top of the neck.
Set on a silver (marked) back it has an original working C clasp.
The tesserae all appear to be present and with a fine patina of age to the silver back it is in lovely Antique condition.
Measuring 1 3/4" x 3/4" it is a charming collectors piece from a Golden bygone age.
