Original Signed Charles F Mielatz Engraving 1893.. 'Venice 1492'.
This unique original sepia toned etching is by the renowned New York artist Charles Frederick Mielazt (1864-1919).
It bears no written title, but I call it 'Venice 1492', as it is of that ancient and beautiful city and features a canal with Gondolas carrying finely dressed ladies of the period. The bridge under which they are passing has the date 1492 inscribed on the stonework.
I have not found another like it amongst the many publicized etchings by Mielatz..and I believe it is quite rare and unique and signed and dated '93 (1893) lower left.
Charles Mielatz was a master technician in the field of etching and although German born is recognized as a great American artist. He was a member of the New York Etching club and is best known for his many wonderful etchings of New York city landmarks. He also spent some time in Italy and this fine etching dates to that time.
Printed on cream wove paper with a subtle imprint it is in sepia tones.
NB: It is shown here framed under glass for display purposes but I am selling it UNFRAMED as the glass would make it unsafe and very heavy to ship.
The work itself is 8" x 11 3/4" and it is in very good Antique condition.
