Original French 'Japanese Theatre' Lithograph 1897.
From the French Lithographic series 'Les Affiches Etrangeres' comes this beautiful original Antique lithograph taken from a Japanese woodblock print.
Entitled 'Affiche de Theatre Japon', it was issued in 1897 by G Boudet, Editeur, Paris and printed by the renowned Chaix of Paris in a limited edition of 1025.
This is one of 4 different Japanese Theatre lithographs in the 'Les Affiches' series and it is the most rare.
It is a stunning and colourful depiction of actors as Samurai complete with drums, fans and swords. One is balanced boldly atop a series of waves.
Les Affiches Etrangeres series presented a selection of the greatest posters of La Belle Epoque, by foreign artists (not French), in a reduced collectible size, to the avid poster collectors of Paris in 1897.
Measuring 8 1/2" x 12" it is printed in the stone lithographic process on a fine Canson paper.
Clean verso it is in very good Antique condition.
