I have several stunning Antique lithographs listed from the French Art Nouveau limited edition series L'Estampe Moderne, and in recent years they have become so popular with galleries and museums world wide that they are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
This beautiful lithograph by the noted French painter Henri Fantin-Latour (1836-1904) is from that sublime series and simply entitled 'Immortalite'. It was executed especially for this series.
It features an ethereal Angel, with gossamer wings. She stands in a delicate shaft of Heavenly light holding a single stem of grain and scatters the seed on the earth.
The lithograph comes complete with it's original protective tissue which is printed with a beautiful quote from a Shakespeare sonnet.
Signed in the plate lower left it bears the Blind stamp of authenticity (see picture 3), it is printed by Champenoise of Paris. There were only ever 1050 lithographs issued, making this a highly collectible Antique work of art from issue #13 published in May 1898. I have the other three lithographs published in the set of four for May 1898. See NN301, NN302 and RP346.
Measuring 16" x 12" and with no tears or foxing the lithograph is in very good Antique condition.
L'Estampe Moderne series consisted of 4 limited edition lithographs, issued monthly in a cover by Alphons Mucha, between 1897 and 1899. The original price was 3 francs 50 centimes!
