An original French piece from the early 20th century c1910 and fashioned from Aubusson style tapestry fabric, this evening bag is as lovely on the inside as it is on the outside.
A finely tooled brass frame decorated with flowers and leaves is highlighted by the addition of cabochon set glass stones in vibrant shades of red, blue and green. The delicate chain is also crafted from brass and the clasp is also decorated with small colored stones.
The brass has a lovely patina of age and the tapestry fabric has a lovely muted atmosphere in shades of tan, teal and old rose, against a neutral ground. The pattern of stylized flowers and leaves is different front from back.
All the stones are in place and the tapestry fabric has no holes or tears.
Inside, the original beige silk lining is intact and virtually undamaged, with only some slight age discoloration. The original silk-backed mirror is in the inside pocket, and the entire inner edge is finished with exquisite tiny silk flowers in pastel pink, lavender, blue and green.
Measuring 5 1/2" from the top of the working clasp to the bottom of the bag and 6 1/2" in width, the chain is 10".
