This lovely pure black Kimono dates to the late Meiji era c1900 and is fashioned from a beautiful silky Jinken (artificial silk shantung). I usually only offer pure silk kimono, but this one was so arresting and the fabric and colors so special and unique that I could not resist.
Decorated all over with a pattern of feathers and large Peony flowers in varying tones of grey and vibrant red with beige centers, it is a magnificent looking kimono.
The light in the photographs is reflecting off the sheeny fabric, making the flowers appear white with yellow centers, but the actual colors are softer and a more muted mix of grey and beige.
The lining however is a pastel yellow and off white lawn.
Traditionally kimono have no sizing but the measurements are Entire width (sleeve-tip to sleeve-tip) 49 1/4" Body width 23 3/4" and Length 60 1/2".
The kimono has not been dry cleaned and is in good Antique condition.
