From the early 20th century c1930, comes this very pretty Gold Filled and Garnet set Lavalier Necklace.
Hallmarked 1/20-12K GF with WL in a cartouche, it is by the pre-eminent American Jewelry designer Walter Lampl.
The design is typical 1930's, when the geometric and rigid Art Deco style was gradually morphing into a more decorative style (reminiscent of the Art Nouveau era).
Measuring 15" from end to end it has a lovely central Lavalier measuring 3" x 1 3/4" attached on either side to a fine box link chain.
The Lavalier features a central 5 petaled flower with 4 decorative leaves and 2 small depending chains. 3 faceted cabochon set and open back Garnets highlight the piece.
Lampl opened his business in NYC in 1921 and was renowned for both his costume and fine jewelry designs.
He was a designer and not a manufacturer, and had his unique designs made by various companies. After his death his wife continued the business until its closure in 1959 and in that time he became best known for his puffy hearts and unique charms.
This lovely necklace comes from an earlier time and is a quality piece.
Unlike gold plated or gold washed..12K Gold Filled jewelry is guaranteed to contain at least 1/20th of the items total weight in 12K gold.
With a spring loop clasp in good working order and no visible wear to the gold layer the Vintage condition is very good.
