Napier 1950's Tropicana Fruit Moonglow Charm Bracelet ~ Book Piece ~ Mint!
This Napier signed, mint condition, vintage 1950's three-dimensional chunky charm bracelet is adorned with moonglow bead fruit with gold plated bead caps, leaves and stems. As evidenced by the information in Melinda Lewis' important book, Napier called these lucite beads "moonstone pastels".
Napier dubbed this the "Tropicana" bracelet and it is featured on page 304 of "The Napier Co.: Defining 20th Century American Costume Jewelry" by Melinda Lewis and Henry Swen, just published last year - 2013 (See 2nd photo). Book values bracelet & earring set at $350-$450.
Unlike many that you'll find, this one has the two cherries and the small blue glass grapes charms intact, as well as all the other original charms in perfect condition. All 12 charms dangle from thick, brush textured, oval, gold plated links. Napier's signature large spring ring clasp is hallmarked "NAPIER" on the crossbar. Has original safety chain, too! Bracelet's wearable length is 7.5" inches. Mint condition! Wow!!
Bit O'History: The Napier Company, America's oldest costume jewelry empire, was in business from 1874 until 1999, producing costume, sterling silver and vermeil jewelry, as well as sterling silver collectibles such as vanity items, baby keepsakes, cigarette cases and barware accessories, among others. Napier is still in business under the Jones New York Company, but their modern jewelry does not match the quality of the original company.
