This large (9.5" X 6.5") Nineteenth Century French jewelry casket has 3 large and six smaller clear glass panels, each finished at the edge with a thick chamfer bevel. Each oval shaped and rounded square shape panel is prong set with an a gilt bronze filigree framework, decorated with floral accents and scroll work, resting atop four cabriole style legs decorated in Rococo styling featuring petal flowers and strands of leaves surrounded by scroll work.
This luxurious size is the largest on Ruby Lane as of this February '14 listing, far surpassing other boxes of this style. It measures 9.5" inches long X 6.5" inches wide X 4.75" inches tall. Without the legs, 3.5" inches tall...Just perfect to house a number of brooches or necklaces, or other heirloom keepsakes.
The stunning clear glass panels will make a treasure of your vintage or antique beauties, which can rest atop the delicate, sea green padded velvet lining that is in immaculate condition for one of this age and type. Bottom of the box has a light olive green velvet lining. Lid lines up perfectly with box.
This fabulous find is in near perfect condition; only flaw is a tiny chip on the lid on the front left corner, 2nd edge back, between the small oval panel and the large square on the side of this extraordinary jewelry box. Please see last two photos for close-ups of this one flaw. Otherwise, really excellent condition.
