Lovely and dainty Art Deco design, this 10k yellow gold lavaliere is comprised of a 3mm ruby colored spinel, surrounded with tiny seed pearls and two green gold etched or chased leaf accents. Dangling from a long oblong bar. Beautiful feminine look.
Originally purchased, thinking it was a ruby, but in testing it, discovered it was a spinel. Not being a certified gemologists, I look for pieces that are pleasing to the eye. The beauty of a spinal is worthy of appreciation in its own right, but has been mistaken frequently as a ruby or sapphire. I imagine it was purchased as an alternate birthstone piece for the original owner.
Excellent vintage condition. Signed LJA on the bale, which are the letters for the LJ Anshen Co., out of Providence, RI. Measures 1 3/8", including the bale, x 3/8". The stone is approximately .10 carats. Circa 1910.
A wonderful item to include in your early period jewelry collection.
