Gorgeous, romantic, warm, awesome details.... So many delightful things to mention of this lovely sterling brooch. It is a wonderful example of the meticulous attention craftsmen gave to their pieces. Not to mention, it's just so downright pretty!
The center of the pin features a smooth red orange oval cut carnelian stone. It is beautifully framed by roses with opening petals and tiny leaves between them. Looking a little closer, you can see the veins in the leaves and even how they are attached to the outer frame. Also, notice on the frame the tiny chased lines that create a vine like design. An incredible work of art.
This pin has a several different stamps on the back. On the frame by the back is a partial 925 for sterling silver. Two alike mystery marks are there as well: One being at the 11:00 position and the other on the pin stem. They are the same mark and look like a fleur de lis with some type of circle or halo on top. I thought it might be French in origin and I spent quite a few hours researching this mark with no luck. I tried to get a good shot, but this small I'm not sure if you can see it in the photos.
Dimensions are 1 3/4" x 1 1/8" with the carnelian stone being 7/8" x 1/2". This has a nice deep patina that I will leave any polishing to the new owner. Clasp closes securely. Acid tested for silver content.
Excellent vintage condition ca. 1930's. An exciting piece for the collector of older jewelry.
