Ok, Derby fans, here's something you might like to put on display at your next derby party. This 1975 decanter depicts both the running of the Kentucky Derby and riverboat race with the Belle of Louisville. It has the genie style design with earth tone colors, deep blue and grass green.
On one side, you can see horses racing past Churchill Downs and on the other is the Belle of Louisville on the river. The horses and boat are slightly raised from the background. Around the base are the impressed words Kentucky Derby Festival. Notice the oversized round stopper, which I believe is made to look like a hot air balloon.
The decanter measures 10" tall and the base is 7 1/2" in diameter. On the bottom is written Made in Kentucky USA by Louisville Stoneware Co. 1975 Year of the 101st Kentucky Derby. Also stamped in the bottom is 20th Annual Kentucky Derby Festival. 231 is also evident and is probably the number in the series.
This is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The cork to the stopper is all present and slips in nice and snug. This is a super show piece of vintage barware and Derby memorabilia for the horse fan. Not everyone can brag about having this one.
