Constantinople was the Roman and Byzantine regions and was known as the Ottoman Empire. It was also the worlds most multi cultural and enchanting empire of the time.Around 1920 the country was changed to Turkey. These iconic hand tinted real photo postcards are a reminder and a glimpse into the past of a long ago place filled with mystery and intrigue! The figural studies are all in beautifully colored and detailed native costumes of the late 1800's. The publisher and photographer of these unused cards was Max Fruchter. Max was a photographer who was the first to publish cards depicting the Ottoman Empire under Sultan II. His early cards were hand colored ( as these examples ) and in 1897 he began to produce chromatographic ones. All 13 cards are unused and appear to have at one time been kept in a album, One has a corner crease but all others are in very good condition. These wonderful cards are quite hard to come by and are selling anywhere from 35.00 used up wards to 80.00 each. Enjoy!
