The William B. Kerr Company was founded in 1855 and was located in New Jersey. They were known for their exquisite jewelry, accessories and flatware. Personally I love just about everything I have seen designed by them especially their rarer enameled pieces. This lovely heavy solid sterling belt buckle has been beautifully colored in a lovely sky blue and ebony black combination.Etched under the black enameling is the geometric Greek key design and under the blue is a continuous flow of water, reminding me of a stream or river. It is extremely well made and measures a large 3" long and 2" wide. The very early Kerr hallmark is present of the faces or axe with bound straps and only 2 X's instead of the normal 3 usually found. It is in excellent condition without any damage, scratches or enamel chips or loss. The Greek key designs symbolizes infinity, unity,or the eternal flow of life.
