1929: Signed Edition, " Hitty " by Rachel Fields
This is a very exciting first edition,2nd printing of one of the most charming and loved children's doll books of all time! Signed by the author Rachel Fields ( 1894 - 1942 ) whom was a children's author and poet. Rachel spent most of childhood in Stockbridge,Massachusetts and attended Radcliffe college. When young in 1927 while visiting New York City,Rachel discovered an antique hand carved wooden doll that dated to 1827, 100 years earlier. Hence began the imaginary adventures of Hitty from pre civil war days to the present 1927, giving the book it's title " Hitty, Her First One Hundred Years ". The color and black and white illustrations by Dorothy P. Lathrop are as endearing as the tale itself. This book is in very good condition+. Cloth covered boards. text is clean and free of marks,binding is tight and solid. Best of all it is signed by Rachel dated one year after printing. Included is a 1930 newspaper article about the author that was paper clipped inside as shown in photos.
