Circa 1860's: Miniature Portrait Pendent in Sterling
This heirloom miniature portrait was always said to be Beth from Little Women and I just love it's dreamy appeal. After taking it to my jeweler to open it and see if it was painted on ivory or not, we decided to open this pendent would do more harm than good.It has been sealed in a manner that has kept it in amazing condition for 150 years. It appears to have been executed in gouache by the sheer opaqueness of the piece, the fact that no brush marks are present and the paint has been applied thickly. The subject is a women with her hair parted in the middle and pulled smoothly back in a snood with the sides falling in soft curls. She is wearing a blue dress with a frilly lace collar. Her facials features are good but it is her complexion and the background that have always seemed to demand your attention. Both just have such a lovely luminous glow to them. The pendent has a domed glass cover and measures 1" x 1/4" and is spellbinding.
Gender: Female, Age Group: Adult, Color: Blues,Grays and Silver, Size: 1" x 1/4"
