This lovely floral bordered silver piece was designed by the silversmith company of Matthew F. Hamilton and Junius Davis of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. They were in business under this name from 180 - 1881.From 1881 until 1899 the company was run by Matthew Hamilton alone with a well know designer of the day by the name of Herman.Whether he designed this piece or not I am not sure.I love the framing of the piece with well defined little flowers that fan out in a flowing spiraling scallop design. The elegantly engraved initials of either " W R C " or " W M C " whisper of an era gone by. With a silver chain placed through the top two belt loops it works as a beautiful pendant. But serves most charming with a black velvet ribbon threaded through the loop edges as an Victorian era choker. It measures 2" round and is marked STERLING along with the companies logo.Condition is excellent with a perfect aged patina.
