Dated 1867 : MAGNIFICENT! Scottish Agate Brooch / Swag
I am so thrilled to offer this truly amazing and very unusual dated Scottish Agate Brooch. This certainly was not a mass produced piece but custom made for one lucky lass to be worn as a love token for remembrance. And 145 years latter it has found it's way to resurface and delight all who may gaze upon it.The Celtic design seems to have been taken with the earlier rather large penannular brooches used for fastening clothes. This very unique piece is composed of three sections. The large 2 3/4" across brooch is made of a thick sterling that has been beautifully engraved with a Celtic gater motif.A circle of beveled Montrose agate in shades of gray, black and white blend together and almost appear a light blue.Set between are four shield shaped sections that form a sort of obscure cross.A 5" sterling chain joins this to a shield shaped stick pin in a lukenbooth design that measures 1 3/4" long and almost 3/4" wide.On the back it is engraved in script ,To A.J.T.T. at the top and June 1867 J.W. at the bottom. This incredible work of art making it's sentimental journey through time is even more enchanting today. Enjoy!
Gender: Female, Age Group: Adult, Color: silver, gray, black, white and blue, Size: 7 1/2" stretched with chain
