Murray being a true Irish Name, this sampler was most probably made in the New York ,Boston or Philadelphia area. The coarse linen is loosely woven and most likely the first step the girls had to accomplish in the making of this sampler. The simple colors are strong and condition is good aside from a few spots.Framing is not original to the piece and was re-framed in 1950's.The sampler measures 12" x 10" and framed out 14 1/4" x 16 1/2". Nothing fancy here just the determined accomplishment of needlework, that tells me,Mary Ann Murray probably would of rather been somewhere else.
