I have always loved this unearthed (literally) large copper piece. I knew it was different and had never been used to cook in, but wasn't quite sure what its purpose was until I had posted it awhile back. After some revealing e mails and shared knowledge, the WOW moment hit home. The function of this early hand forged copper trade sign was to sell copper goods and advertise the stores services. It most likely hung from a forged iron bracket and swung in front of the shop. In distinctive lettering are the craftsmen mark of A.C.& B.W. The beautiful and deep aged copper is offset with tinges of blue / green verdigris. Large hand hammered rivets attach the dove tailed handle to the deep pan. A poring spout on the side of the pan has been worked into the design. The handle measures 10 1/4”, the pan is 10 1/4" in diameter and approx. 30" in circumference and 2 1/4" deep. It is a solid piece and heavy piece. Most likely it is from a New England seaport town. Enjoy!
