I don't usually offer plastic rosaries, but I couldn't resist this striking vintage Catholic treasure. Originally acquired as a religious souvenir from Lourdes, there is a vial recessed into the back of the crucifix that once held precious healing water. The solid purple plastic cross is clad in silver tone metal and pegged with an INRI banner and heavyweight molded corpus. Christ is made of silvered brass with a striking balance of dark patina and bright undertones.
Also attesting to the origins of this rosary is a nicely-detailed, classic grotto scene on the back of the silver plated center medal. The face bears an unusually beautiful profile of a youthful Madonna with lustrous dark patina.
What really caught my attention were the fabulous faceted beads that resemble the art glass frequently used to create Lourdes pilgrimage rosaries. The purple is marbled with white and is just gorgeous. Despite their light weight, they look very much like glass and are even double-capped with o-rings for a nice finishing touch. The paters are virtually covered by laced silvered bead caps with patina similar to the corpus.
All original and in superb vintage condition, this fun rosary is ideal for daily use and light enough to carry with you at all times. Comes boxed and ready for gift-giving.
