This fun Catholic rosary is from a private Austrian collection and features wonderful little spacer medals positioned at each pater bead. The silver plated (tested) medals have flowers on the face (daisy, rose, lily, pansy) one side and holy persons on the verso (St. Margaret Mary Alocoque, St. Therese of Lisieux, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Aloysuis Gonzaga, Madonna at prayer).
The smooth, rice-shaped beads are made from matte black wood that glides easily through your fingers. Plump, round paters facilitate prayer and draw your attention to the spacer medal that follows. They are mounted on brass pins with twisted figure-8 links separating the decades.
At the center is a figural representation of wheat and grapes, deeply cast and with nice dark patina that accentuates the details. The reverse has a lovely image of Jesus revealing His Sacred Heart.
The squared 2-layer crucifix is made of silver with a French boar hallmark on the face. Although it is not likely original to the rosary, I believe the ensemble has been together for some time, as its dark patina is similar to the rest of the rosary. A simple lined border has been pressed into the cross, with a wonderfully detailed and unusual corpus for your reflection. Note the interesting angle of Christ's head and His separated feet. I think He looks more angelic than the usual representations of His passion.
In excellent vintage condition, this sweet rosary has many elements that will enhance your prayers. It would make a very nice religious gift and comes boxed and ready for giving.
