Given the rarity of genuine antique bloodstone, it is no surprise that artisans have attempted to replicate in glass the meditative beauty of this precious gemstone. This energetic Art Nouveau rosary is an outstanding example of fine glassmaking that you may find just as appealing.
Exquisitely crafted in fine silver and designed for your aesthetic and spiritual delight, it features beautiful openwork components that add a feminine touch. The lovely laced center medal is full of curls, swirls and geometric shapes with a simple flower at the base. And the ornate Celtic-inspired crucifix is a work of art.
On the front is a molded corpus with lovely smoothing and dark patina. I don't know whether they're clover or shamrocks in the tips of the cross, but they harmonize beautifully with the botanical motif within the cross itself. The back repeats these patterns and designs, all of which is visible without the corpus. A French crab hallmark is on the front bail.
The smooth, polished round beads are deep green with a touch of black, pale green flecks and the irregular red spots found in natural bloodstone. I believe the beads are handmade based on the variations in size and shape and what could be pontil marks on several beads. This is beautifully crafted, high quality art glass that does so much more than imitate bloodstone.
This vintage Catholic devotional is in excellent condition in every way. Definitely suited for daily prayer, it would also be eye-catching as religious jewelry, if you are so inclined to wear a rosary. Comes boxed and ready for gift-giving.
