This is one of those sweet and unusual vintage Catholic rosaries that you will want to carry around with you. Indeed, it is just the right size to do so... portable and prayable at the same time.
While satin glass, oblong-shaped beads were quite popular in the 1940s and 1950s, I don’t believe I have ever seen them in a pearlescent shade of forest green. The beads are slender and pinned close to each other, but their length readily distinguishes them during prayer. As is common with this shape, there are occasional nicks at the end from pinning, and some beads that were formed with irregular edges. That said, they are all original, lustrous and earthy, and in excellent vintage condition.
The silver plated (tested) center and crucifix are equally lovely in their design and simplicity. At the center is a small round medal of Mary with the inscription “Maria Immac(ulata)” around the rim. The dark patina accentuates her serene features, and the verso contains a small spray of lilies.
The Art-Deco style crucifix has a wonderful pebble-texture and dark patina. The glowing molded corpus stands out against this background and exhibits devotional smoothing. Both the bail and the plain verso are marked “France.” Note that there is some discoloration on the back of the crucifix that I was unable to remove.
This religious devotional has uplifting, action-oriented energy that we all could benefit from. A sweet treasure for yourself or someone special. Comes boxed and ready for gift-giving.
