Sweet and simple, this pure white vintage Catholic rosary features oblong Prosser beads and bright gilded components. In 1840, the Prosser brothers developed a technique in England for manufacturing buttons by molding cold paste under great pressure and then firing it. This results in rich opaque colors and vibrant whites that resemble porcelain and have a seam of varying thickness around the middle. These beads are long and slender with o-rings capping each end to protect the edges and add a touch of elegance.
The round center medal depicts Jesus and His Sacred Heart on the front and a very nice image of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel on the verso. I especially love the billowing clouds beneath her as she and the Christ Child offer us the gift of her scapular.
The crucifix has an Art Deco aesthetic with grooved lines accenting the underlying cross and triangular pointed edges. The molded corpus has nice details and is securely pinned to the cross, which is marked “France” on the verso and around the bail.
Likely dating from the 1930s or 1940s, there is appropriate wear to the gilding but overall, this religious devotional is in excellent vintage condition. Lightweight and sturdy, it is perfect for daily use and for carrying in your purse or briefcase. Comes boxed and ready for gift-giving.
