This beautiful and refined brass cloisonne cross is an amalgam of styles and colors that will make it a versatile and indispensible piece of religious jewelry. Undated, I believe this is an early 1900s piece given the level of detail and superb workmanship on the verso.
As an iteration of the Maltese Cross, its splayed arms are filled with blue, white, black and green enamel executed in geometric and Celtic-style designs. I especially like the ornate brass arabesques and brass outline accenting the beautiful colors. The striking center features another cross with white ornaments around the edges. Please note that there is some minor enamel loss just below the center, so please look closely at the pictures.
Similar designs and ornamentation are etched into the brass verso, whose gentle glow would beautifully contrast against black or any of the jewel-colored clothing. Right now the designs are nicely accented with patina, but this side would look terrific with more shine, if you prefer.
