What a glorious Catholic chaplet for honoring St. Anne, grandmother of Jesus and the mother of our Blessed Virgin Mary. It is crafted of glowing faceted goldstone beads... a form of art glass that can be mistaken for natural gemstone.
Goldstone originated in 17th century Venice and is created by adding copper or copper salts to the reducing flame. Although it appears to be reddish-brown, the glass itself is colorless and the color comes from the copper crystals. When the reduced goldstone cools, the copper remains in atomic isolation and precipitates into crystalline clusters, which appear to be gold flecks. Science aside, the results are stunning, especially with the black cats-eye type accent along the length-wise faceted edges.
The beads are beautifully complemented by heavy gilding on the pins, chain and medal. The slender, Art Deco style medal features St. Anne and Mary on the face and the Basilica of St. Anne de Beaupre on the verso. The gilding is nice and bright with little wear, and will be a bright spot in your prayer life.
Chaplets are sometimes incorrectly described as small rosaries or bracelets. Increasingly popular as devotionals and collectibles, they are in fact Catholic prayer beads that honor and initiate devotions to Jesus, Mary and particular Holy Persons. Each chaplet has its own configuration and recitations, although some chaplets may be prayed differently depending on your intention.
This is a lovely vintage religious devotional for the mother or grandmother in your life. It comes with complete prayer instructions and is boxed and ready for gift-giving.
