An Art Nouveau French Vermeil, gold over silver, Porte Bonheur good luck charm or pendant. The charm is round with cut out antique Art Nouveau styled script font of the period which reads, "Je Porte Bonheur." The term Porte Bonheur is used for charms or tokens and means "This brings happiness or good fortune." Je means "I", meaning that the charm itself is speaking to say that it brings good luck and happiness when carried. There is also a four leaf clover set in the top with a little pearl in its center. It has a French poincoin mark on the attached bail and also has a pretty elongated hanging bail. The charm measures 13/16" in diameter and it weighs 1.6 grams. This is a version of finer similar French charms or pendants that were done in 18k gold and plique a jour "stained glass window" glass enamel.
