A beautiful unique charm of a miniature European style upholstered side chair decorated in ornate floral enamel. The enamel almost resembles mille fleur glass but it is finely hand painted floral enamel. It is 18K tested gold but unmarked for gold content. However, it bears a very crisp makers mark. The mark is not completely present but it is very well marked. It appears to be GTT or GFT. It is very reminiscent of the Austrian furniture miniatures that are seen that are made of fine enamel and gold or gilt metal of fine antique styled living room furniture intended for curio cabinet display or for dollhouse or slightly larger doll furniture. Those miniatures of furniture and other items, such as teapots, were decorated with scenes including people in 1800's costume, but that would be impossible to duplicate on a charm of this size. I can say that the maker's mark is not of the French style, which is within a diamond shape cartouche, and I believe it to be possibly Austrian. I have included a photo of these miniature Austrian decorative furniture miniatures for comparison. You can see that the style of the chair is almost identical. These items date to the early 1900's and late 1900's. I am not sure of the age of this chair, but believe it to be early 1900's to towards mid 1900's. The back of the charm and the underside of the seat shows the Robin's egg blue enamel that backs the enamel plaques of the seat and the back of the chair. The attached bail bears the maker's mark and from it are hung two hanging bails, a small one and to that, a larger one. The gold that borders the enamel "upholstering" on the top of the chair is shaped to resemble a finely carved side chair and the legs and front bottom are also formed and "carved" to resemble a chair of whatever period and country it would be an example of, pardon my lack of knowledge of period furniture styles. The floral enamel on the seat is unfortunately damaged with a piece of it missing on the front left along the edge, shown in a close up photo. Where the enamel is missing it shows the rich gold underneath. This is not very noticeable without a loop within the ornate floral enamel work as it blends right in. Still a rarity and a beauty! The charm measure 7/8" tall and 3/8" wide at its widest. It weighs 1.9 grams.
