Cossack on Horseback, Tatar, Tartar, Watercolor, WW I
This is an exquisite and detailed watercolor of a Cossack riding a horse. Cossacks were and still are known for their fine horsemanship and for being fierce warriors. Written on the back in pencil: Tartarian Messenger, War 1914/18. The Tartars or Tatars are a Turkic people living in Europe and Asia.
The painting is signed: R.Peter 1920
CONDITION: Excellent ! Vivid color. Cannot find any damage to the watercolor. Some very slight scuffing on the edges of the frame consistent with age.
MEASUREMENTS: About 22 inches long x 15 wide. Frame about 2 inches wide, so sight is about 18 x 11.
