Goldstone surrounds a stunning geometric pinwheel on this fabulous antique Victorian gold fill brooch or pendant. The pinwheel appears to be onyx, blue chalcedony, red agate and goldstone. The gold-fill frame is encircled by rich gold-fill rope. The brooch has a ring for double duty as a pendant. The ring is on a swivel so it tucks out of sight when wearing this as a brooch.
The clasp is a snap ring closure that was not invented until the 1930s. This pin has all the signs of the Victorian era, circa 1880. I believe the closure to be a replacement. Whatever the age, this brooch is a stand-out.
The center stones have some slight chips, visible in the photos. The chips do not appear quite as noticeable in person. The narrow black stripes at the bottom of the frame are seams. I don't know whether they can be polished out.
The pin is about 1 ¾ x 1 3/8 inches.
