This fun lidded trinket, cigarette or "calling card" box dates likely from the 1930's. Made from some sort of composite cast material, it depicts a Conestoga Wagon train, as traveled the Oregon Trail, among others. Figures, including horses, wagons, cowboys and terrain, are in very fine and realistic detail, high relief. The basic presentation is to appear as carved or sculpted wood. Each end/handle bears a different motif. A most unusual find, we think; in 40+ years of collecting and dealing we have not seen another. Overall it measures approximately 5.5 inches by 4 inches by 1.5 inches; interior container area is 4 inches by 3 inches. Condition is very good, showing only incidental wear from light use; no damage. We find no signatures or maker marks.
