Villeroy and Boch Design Naif (folk art) clock. The scene by Gérard Laplau (signed in the plate) is printed on a high-fire vitro porcelain deep dish style plate, 10 ½ inches diameter. Condition is like new. The clock itself is a quartz movement (requires one AA battery) and has been keeping perfect time. The piece is fully marked on the back – from Villeroy & Boch®, Luxembourg (please see detail photos for marks and signatures). Gérard Laplau was a French folk artist. His most celebrated work is probably the naif series from Villeroy & Boch. He died on Bastille Day, July 14, 2009, in Saint-Céré, France. V & B has been a highly respected porcelain producer since the mid eighteenth century. We find this series of “naïve art” clocks, which was produced in the 1980s, generally sells for about $120 -$140.
More photos gladly and questions always welcome.
