The book was "presented with the compliments of the management of the Nederland Line-Royal Dutch Mail, Amsterdam." Oblong, approximately 11.5 x 16 inches. Bound with three heavy-duty staples. Pictorial front wrappers illustrating sea waves. Forty full page illustrations, some b/w, some in colour. Some tanning to page edges; water marking on cover; otherwise internally bright, pages undamaged; all internal pages suitable for framing. Joseph Adolf Spiers (1900-1978) was a Dutch artist and illustrator who began work as a newspaper cartoonist. He was sent to Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1943 for his satirical depictions of Hitler. This is a lovely collection of his work of scenes from all over the world including Egypt, Sumatra and Italy.
