Just another pin back, right? Not exactly; we found this piece to be so much fun. Palo Alto County Iowa semi-centennial 1856-1906 pinback button. Made (and so-marked) by Western Badge and Novelty Co., John A. Lethert, proprietor. St. Paul, Minn. The building pictured was an original settlement structure from pre-Civil War days. Palo Alto County is so-named as it is the site of the first battlefield victory in the Mexican-American War. The County population was 13,845 in the 1910 (when this button was produced) census, but had declined to only 9,421 in the 2010 census. The Western Badge Co. and related companies under Mr. Lehtert's ownership date from the latter half of the nineteenth century. Condition: All original. The button and pin are in excellent condition – show no signs of use or handling, only "aging."
