This is a very rare doll with a little bit of a provenance. She is a 14 inch doll know as the London Rag baby made by Montanari the well know maker of wax dolls. The information on the doll comes from Pollock's Dictionary of English Dolls. The doll was made in 1875 it has a mask fabric face over a wax face and is backed with cloth and a bonnet. The fabric on the face has darkened from the wax and age. The eyes look like they are a clear enamel so they look like glass, she also has mohair hair. The entire body is cloth with stitched fingers and the costume is all original, except the leather shoes. There is a paper that came attached to the doll and it says " One shoe lost sorry, From Morestown N.J. private Quaker Home, brought from England 1880 Splendid condition all original for a doll this type, so rare, so sweet so choice". The doll is a very rare doll made by a company known for it's poured wax dolls.
