American folk art Doll 23 inches tall. This is a great example of an early 1880 oil painted folk doll. She has heavily painted black hair, blue eyes and a great expression. She is very nicely made with a wonderful outfit of red checks, a blouse and skirt with white underwear, red socks and leather homemade shoes. The head has an unusual pattern of 4 pieces, 3 to form the back of the head and 1 flat piece for the face. The painted in a little cruder giving the doll a wonderful and happy personality. There is even shading to give the neck and chin delineation. The hands are made in an unusual fashion also a mitt style with only 1 finger sewn on each hand. She is a great example of an early folk doll.
