Very nice mid Victorian, early Photograph Portrait Brooch. Believe this to be an Ambrotype and depicts a Gentleman. Ambrotypes date from c1850 through the 1880's. However, believe this to be on the early side judging by the type of frame and style of dress/hair. Additionally, the photograph appears to be hand colored on the cheeks. The early photograph is set in an oval 14K Gold frame with a thin gold rope design bordering the photograph. Very handsome piece. This Brooch was probably worn by the Gentleman's wife....possibly during the Civil War, which this most likely dates to. The Brooch was assayed to determine the metal / carat at 14K Gold and measures (1 1/2" x 1 3/4"). On the reverse is the original C-Clasp. The antique Photographic Jewelry / Brooch shows well in our photographs but as always, best in person. Note some reflections on the glass and on the Gold on the reverse (including our white beamed ceiling).
