Magnificent, ornate, antique Sterling Silver Serving Tray / Wine Coaster, made by J. E. Caldwell, dating to the late 19th Century, circa: 1890. The antique Sterling Pierced Border Tray is very heavy weight (weighing approximately 19 ounces) and measures 9 7/8" in diameter. Uses for the antique Sterling Serving Tray are many---pastry tray, fruit tray, cheese tray, bread tray, chocolate tray, wine or champagne glass tray, to name a few. Would make an exceptional large Sterling Wine Coaster. The Tray is gorgeous, with a wide pierced border has an assortment of decoration: botanical leaves, Forget Me Not Flowers and Roses worked into the design. In the center is a beautiful fancy script monogram, almost too elaborate to make out (possibly 'GEC'. Marked on the bottom with the following: J. E. Caldwell & Co., Phila., Sterling, #809 (the register number). Is an exceptional piece in very beautiful, very fine condition. Note that the piece is picking up many reflections of the room and of the camera! while being photographed that are NOT part of the piece! Shows well in the photos and more stunning and more detailed in person.
