Spectacularly glazed vintage Wedgwood Pottery Bowl modernist design by Norman Wilson, three legged / three footed bowl. It has a shiny black glaze on the exterior and a sparkly brown interior of the bowl. Beautiful combination. It may be an adventurine glaze. It is has a dynamic modernist shape and glaze. It measures approximately 4” inches tall x 6 1/2” inches in length x 6” inches deep.. It is fully marked to the base and in very good condition with very minor age related wear. Dates to the first half if the 20th Century, probably 1936. We acquired this years ago from a private estate in the Philadelphia area. With it was a hand written note which reads:
“This is a rare piece of Wedgwood. It is a trial piece, and was never made in quantity. Purchased from Mish (?) Buten of the Museum (Buten)”
Buten Museum of Wedgwood was formally in Merion, PA which had been absorbed into the Birmingham Museum of Art, Alabama.
The bowl shows very well in person and even more beautiful in person. The outside glaze is very reflective and is picking up many reflections of the room while being photographed. Photos were taken with and without a camera flash.
