Gorgeous, late Victorian 14K Gold Diamond Pendant / Diamond Brooch with a fine, beautiful sparkling Diamond in the center of a Sunburst motif (Scatter design) with small Seed Pearls decorating the rays. The piece is designed to show off the whiteness of the Diamond by means of the ornate Sunburst motif surrounding it and in particular, the small area it nestles in, which casts a darker shadow, thus shows off the intensity of the Diamond's brilliance and sparkle. A good deal of fine 19th Century was made to be versatile. This is no exception. To wear as a Diamond Pendant, the hinged bale on the reverse lifts up and a chain would then slide through the ring at the top. To wear as a Diamond Brooch, the bales tucks away on the back. Versatile and elegant. The Diamond is of exceptional quality; with a water-like brilliance with tremendous sparkle. The appraisal notes: (approximate) 63 point Old European Diamond to be of GIA Color I and GIA Clarity VS2. The stone and mounting are an exquisite match. The gold is a warm yellow gold and the whiteness of the Diamond is beautifully complimented by the ornate gold and darkened gold colors of the mounting. The small Pearls repeat the round details in the open-work design. The Clasp on the reverse is marked 14K; this was made at the transition period when some pieces were beginning to be marked by carat.
