Extremely beautiful and very large, antique mid Victorian Amethyst Brooch set in an unusual 14K Gold Frame. The Amethyst is large, oval, deep purple and faceted. The Amethyst is beautifully prong mounted into the gorgeous scalloped with an engraved 14K Gold Frame. Because of the design of the mounting, the stone appears as if 'floating' in the mounting, with the points of the scallop touching a alternating points with the open area of the scallops. The reverse has the original C-Clasp. The frame was assayed to determine the carat at 14K. The Brooch dates to circa: 1860 and is in fine condition. Truly exceptional. The overall size of the Brooch measures: 1 1/4" x 1 1/2". The size of the Amethyst itself measures: 7/8" x 1 1/8". The stone also is quite deep. The antique Amethyst and Gold Brooch shows very well in the photographs and even prettier in person. The photos were taken with and without a camera flash and the stone and frame are picking up reflections while being photographed. Note normal inclusions in the Amethyst under high magnification.
